Proxy connects but pages do not load? Proxy not working?
Short and to the point: If your proxy connects but pages won’t load—or the proxy stops working entirely—it’s likely your ISP is throttling or blocking network traffic after establishing the proxy connection. The easiest and most reliable fix is to enable a VPN before connecting to the proxy, effectively bypassing your ISP. Alternatively, you can try changing the DNS on your computer, but this doesn’t always work.
What’s really going on ❓
This often happens in Russia, but can occur with ISPs in other countries too. Since June, many residential ISPs have started blocking or slowing down network requests to Cloudflare, other CDN services, and most server-grade ISP providers. That’s why you might notice some websites load partially or not at all when using your home internet connection.
Every proxy connection triggers a new network request to your ISP. The ISP inspects traffic, recognizes the request to a foreign server provider, and cuts the connection. Cybersecurity organizations are filtering out “suspicious” proxy traffic—servers used for proxies are often hosted by data-center ISPs, and residential ISPs are blocking access to those ranges.
What to do ❓
🚀 Best solution: Turn on a VPN before using your proxy.
