MvM: Arsenal

May's Monthly Dev Blog!

Howdy yall! Amp here! A dev blog huh? Yep!

With MvM in heavy development and currently unplayable, we figured it would be helpful to give you updates on progress via these Monthly Dev Blogs! These will help keep our loyal playerbase more in the loop with the development cycle of MvM!

So expect these to appear Monthly....at least during big update cycles!

We know for most of you, you never even got to see MvM in action! You just here grumpy old man Nugz whine about "the good ol days of mvm" and "intestinal blockage" or whatever.

So for this Dev Blog, we intend to answer some basic questions about MvM, what we are working on, and when you can expect to see it! As well as some sneak peeks!

Why is MvM down?

Awesome art made by Alfonzo, The First Eclipsed

MvM has been hosted on a world for 10 years, due to personal inexperience and sheer technical limitations (at the time). We had no way of automating this process, it was essentially ran by a few VERY JANKY command systems, and myself....every single game....for 10 years. Though the core idea was a blast, a lot of cumbersome quality of life changes needed to be made...and on my own I couldn't make that happen! As Supernova was formed however, people like Cosmo, Jedi, Nugz, and Sam joined the MvM dev team...we finally had the Dev-Power to begin fully automating this big ol game!

So we devised a plan in late December 2022... We were going to shut down MvM from the public for most of 2023, While we worked hard on two major updates that would bring MvM into a new automated era!

The Plan: Arsenal and Armada

Two massive updates were planned, those being Arsenal and Armada. This would split up our workload. Each update would address key areas of MvMs core gameplay that involved that stinky old amp guy (hey thats me!) and remove him from the game.

Buisness is Boomin!

Arsenal is all about automating the Armory and redoing the ENTIRE economy. Aswell as give each map a massive visual/gameplay overhaul!

These are the main points of focus during this update!

  • Automated Loot Crates
  • Armory NPCs
  • Custom Crafting Recipes
  • Loads of new item textures
  • Rebalancing the Entire Economy
  • Rebalancing Special Gear
  • Rebalancing Gadgets
  • Rebalancing Tools
  • A new hub world
  • Map visual reworks

This update will be done about mid to late summer, and will be directly followed up by...

Dun dun DUNNNNNNNNN!!!!

Armada is the spicy update, its all about the combat and general gameplay of MvM!

There's not too much I can say about Armada at the moment. However, as we get deeper into Armada we will have much more to share! (thats what the Monthly Dev Blogs are for!)

Just know we have some HUGE changes coming to MvM combat, including the complete removal of Elite Mobs!

So when can we expect to play MvM publicly again?

You can expect to start slaying Mobs and cracking open crates with your fellow Nova-Nauts this Winter! Once Armada is complete, MvM will go back to public hosting sessions! However, these sessions will be 30 times less cumbersome now that all of it is (mostly) automated. Until the end of 2024 that is, because then MvM becomes a fully automated SERVER! But I've already said too much!

Arsenal is about Half way completed, with all of our devs firing on all cylinders...We hope to hop right onto Armada as soon as its completed! We sincerely appreciate all of your patience! We know you want this game infront of you, and we can't wait to hand it to you!

So, to end off this first Dev Blog, I think it will be good to show off a variety of Sneak Peeks that will be comin
