Buddy Session #2 Instructions

Prerequisites

  • You have listened to the audio-podcast about Creativity and Soft Skills
  • You have done your first buddy session

Goals

The goal of the second buddy session is to practice doing a specific brainstorming technique that you can do with a partner or in a group. The secondary goal is to get meaningful ideas for your current most relevant issue/problem/task.

Steps

  1. Formulate and write down your current task/problem/issues that you are dealing with. Possible options:
    • content for instagram page
    • onboarding students
    • what to do when students are leaving
    • fear of a higher price tag
    • working with teens etc.
  2. Schedule a 1 hour meeting/call with your buddy.
  3. Share your task/problem/issue 1 day in advance with your buddy before the meeting/call.
  4. Follow the brainstorming technique that is described below.
  5. Discuss the ideas/suggestions using the technique guidelines.
  6. Write down the final list / take a screenshot.
  7. Share with the mentor.

The result of your buddy session will be a list of at least 5 deep, thought-through and discussed hypothesis, ideas and suggestions for your problem/task/issue.

Technique

Duration: 60 minutes

Format: pair work

Agenda:

0-10 minutes: each buddy write down all ideas and suggestion for the problem of the FIRST buddy (so for one of you it will be writing ideas for yourself). Without any self-censorship, criticism or limits. Write down everything.

11-20 minutes: you do the same but for the problem of the SECOND buddy's problem.

21-30 minutes: you share the lists with each other and again work alone to add some details and improve on the suggestions of your buddy. So you build up on the existing list of ideas of your buddy for both your issue and your buddy's.

30-45 minutes: you go through all the suggestions for the FIRST buddy's issue. Give feedback, ask questions, reflect on them, choose the most significant ones. (the choice is made by the buddy whose issue is discussed). At the end copy the final list of the most relevant ideas.

45-60 minutes: you do the same for the SECOND buddy's problem/task. At the end copy the final list of the most relevant ideas.

Guidelines:

  • no criticism, try to be opposite of devil's advocate. The final filtering should be made by a person by themselves in their own time.
  • no judgement of the task, issue.
  • no self-limitations; Try to think of other areas of life where the same nature of a problem could appear and try to find answers / creative solutions from there.
