I am personally a frequent user of cooler as I love outing activities, especially camping and trekking. Every cooler has its own qualities and abilities of ice retainment but for the best results, we have given our best to maintain Coolers. It's important to use coolers in the right way.

Coolers aren't designed to last forever! 

I have read many reviews and people generally ask questions regarding their cooler which they are already using for ages.  Like most things in life, coolers aren't designed to last forever. If you are in the middle of a picnic and your cooler starts leaking, it doesn't matter if you ever bought cheap coolers or expensive ones. The fact is that your cooler is leaking and your food is going to be spoiled in a few hours. You can actually prevent such things from happening.

Is your Gasket damaged?

Damaged gaskets are one of the main issues that disturb us the most. The gasket is the key component of a cooler. It is usually made up of soft and elastic material. It keeps the cooler frosted as its sealed airtight to keep the cold air inside. As they are soft and light, any little cut or tear can create an escape route for the cold air leading to damage.

So, check your gasket from time to time and make sure it's in good condition. The gasket problem can be fixed but if you are having this problem again and again then you must go for a new cooler. There are some problems which I hate the most. Damaged gaskets are quite a big problem but there are some problems which irritate and disturb us every single minute.

Cooler’s drain plug is leaking while you are in the middle of a trip

This issue is one of the most irritating issues according to me. The drain plus is used to remove melted water and if it's broken there will be water all around your cooler.  I had faced this problem once, I placed the cooler in my tent in the night and at midnight my all stuff was wet. Nobody wants a pool party around the food, right? Check your drain plug regularly and the best way to fix it is to change your cooler and buy a new one. 

Old handles/straps

They are an indication that it's the best time to search for a new cooler but broken handles/straps are the clear ends of one’s happiness.  Handles bear a lot of weight. Just take a second and imagine how you will carry a cooler loaded with ice, food, and drinks without handles/straps, I think it's the worst time you can imagine.  I will suggest you check your cooler’s handles/straps and take it out only if you are 100% sure about it. Don't ever use a cooler with loose handles overwise that trip can become your worst outing experience. 

Problem with lid hinges 

This problem can be considered as the most common problem with coolers. Lid hinges are the most commonly broken part of the cooler. Frankly, broken lid hinges are the end of the cooler’s life. It is the most used part of a cooler. Using the cooler you are constantly opening and closes the lid which makes it weak. Constantly opening and closing the lid puts a lot of pressure on it. Hinges are usually made of plastic but even metal ones don't give you a life long guarantee. If your lid is broken, the whole cooler is down. It's just like a bike without wheels. Buying a new cooler is the best way possible to prevent such issues. 

Upgradation is the rule of this world! Upgrade your cooler according to your additional needs and performance. 

A right cooler is required for the right job. You can use a small cooler for a group party of 10-12 friends. I have seen people trying to use a particular style or size of cooler for all applications. It results in nothing but frustration. Recently I observed a man using a picnic cooler as a marine cooler. Marine coolers have specific waterproof features and unique water abilities which other coolers don't have. Use coolers for what they are designed for. Using a cooler for areas that are not suitable for them can result in a great loss especially if you have an expensive brand cooler. It is advised to use a particular cooler for a particular event.
