Pre-landing Page Upgrade

Story

I ordered the development of a pre-landing page with promo materials from Terra. I notably bored managers (thanks to them for their restraint) and they asked me to show what approach I use and what I pay attention to. I, in turn, asked for a budget for tests and an increase in payments if the case shows nice results. So my profit is in your hands;)

Offer selection

I mainly run weight loss products, so the case will be about one of them, the favorite one. Keto Light is one of the top Terra Leads offers in this niche. This can be seen from the statistics on their dashboard. The manager confirmed this information during communication.

Landing page

I chose the landing page based on my personal assessment, Terra's statistics and the manager's recommendations.

Pre-landing page selection

There are 3 pre-landing pages available in Poland: 1 - actor Joaquin Phoenix, 2 - happy weight loss story from a woman, 3 - doctor's recommendation with weight loss cases. I decided to test them all.

Test objectives

  • determine the pre-landing page with the best penetration (switching to a landing page with an offer);
  • understand what type of stories are best for target audience;
  • monitor user behavior, get insights on pre-landing improvements;
  • at the exit, get a working bundle.

I ran the tests on Pops traffic for several reasons:

  • quick result,
  • lack of promo materials,
  • very simple settings,
  • high traffic volume,
  • low cost per click.

I purchased traffic from the Dao Ad advertising platform. The campaign settings were very simple:

Tracker

I used Keitaro for tests as its support helps users with installation and quickly answers all questions, which saved me a lot of time.

Tracker setup:

  • Download pre-landing pages from Terra, upload Yandex.Metrica counters. For each pre-landing page, I created my own counter for data purity;
  • Add our pre-landing pages to Keitaro on the “Landings” tab as local files. In the links leading from a pre-landing page to the landing page, change the existing URL to {offer};
  • Find the required PN in the "Affiliate Networks" section, check the postbacks;
  • In the PN, create a stream by selecting the desired pre-landing page and copying the direct link with the webmaster's label;
  • In Keitaro, create a stream on the Campaigns tab, select Scheme, and assemble our constructor: add our pre-landing page in the Landings field, and specify a link to the landing in the Offers field. Since we have one pre-landing page + landing page in the stream, we need to create a stream for each test landing page in the same way.
  • In the campaign settings, set the split test of streams. Be sure to indicate the weight so that the traffic is distributed equally.
  • If you want to send the postback to the advertising network, set up the “Source” in Keitaro, too.

Results and analysis

Dao Ad:

As you can see from the Dao table, I ended up buying 25,020 clicks for $25,025.

Yandex.Metrica:

To understand the audience, I look at the general traffic data.

Then I turn to the click and scroll map to understand how users behave on the pages.

In my case, you can see that users scroll a maximum of 3 screens. Therefore, writing long stories is not worth it. The average time they spend on one screen is 5-7 seconds. That is, there is not enough time to hook the user.

WebVisor:

For the most stubborn. Here you can see what exactly the user saw on their screen, check the adaptation for devices. I advise you to always view multiple sessions with interactions.

Keitaro:

  1. Keitaro tracked 22004 clicks, of which 15354 were unique. As you can see from the table, traffic between pre-landing pages was equally distributed + you can track the percentage of conversions to a landing page with an offer.
  2. Pre-landing №3 won - doctor's recommendation with weight loss cases, it received the largest CR referrals to the landing page.
  3. We received 2 requests from pre-landing pages 1 and 3. The application from pre-landing page 1 got into trash, but we received a profit of $18 from pre-landing page 3 (didn’t indicate currency in the postback), which was a nice bonus.

Conclusions

  1. The medical approach worked best. In my opinion, it is also more convincing as it is difficult to argue with the authority of a doctor, because they are more competent.
  2. Don't make pre-landing pages with a bunch of text on 100,500 screens as we have too little time to hook the user.
  3. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of traffic in Dao Ad, the budget for tests was only $7.
  4. On Pops traffic, you can quickly get a result, which always suits a good affiliate. After all, the one who conducts tests... tests... tests... makes money...
  5. I got a better understanding of where users click and what they pay attention to, ideas for finalizing the pre-landing page appeared.
  6. And the last thing: do not hesitate to contact support! Even if it seems that you already got the managers. After all, the PN is also interested in profit, just like you!

Ideas for finalizing the pre-landing page

As a result, I got the following list of things to add:

  1. A journalist's avatar.
  2. Description of the doctor next to his photograph.
  3. Add Top 3 Popular Related Articles (headings only, placed in the column on the right).
  4. Social media repost buttons.
  5. Product certifications.
  6. Pop-up form allowing you to get a healthy eating plan.
  7. Ability to like comments and rate the product.
