Singapore regulates the granting of patents and intellectual property: Patents Bill and Intellectual Property Bill.
The criteria that Singapore uses when granting a patent:
- novelty - the technology must not be publicly known anywhere in the world;
- ingenuity - even if it is new, it must be an improvement that would not be obvious to those with technical skills or knowledge in the field;
- industrial application - it must have a practical application.
By now, the invention application is undergoing a formal examination, and a change in the status of the application is expected within a few months.
Today, Singapore is a leader in the quality of intellectual property protection in Asia, and according to the World Economic Forum its rating was upgraded to fourth place, as the legislation in this area is stable and there are no legal and political risks.
