Palace complex Belvedere in Vienna
The historic building complex Belvedere in Vienna is a must-see. Its two Baroque palaces, the Orangery and the Palace Stables, are set in a park landscape. Situated in the third district of Vienna, on the south-eastern edge of the city centre, it also houses the Museum Belvedere. The museum showcases some of the finest art objects and exhibits.
The first part of the Belvedere was built around 1712-1716, and the lower Belvedere was accessed from Rennweg. It has a gate with the arms and initials of the Prince and leads to the Marble Hall. In previous eras, the lower was a private residence and the upper was for pomp and prestige. The vast majority of the Prince collections were housed in the upper Belvedere.

In 1903, the Lower Belvedere was inaugurated, which included a modern collection of art. The Ministry of Culture purchased Klimt's "The Kiss" and other pieces of art from the period. In 1992, the Upper Belvedere underwent extensive renovation and re-branding. The 20er Pavilion was added, which was renamed Belvedere 21 in 2002. The majority of the art collection is on display in the Upper wing.
The Upper Belvedere was built in 1717. The Prince had defeated the Turkish army in 1683. He used the palace to hold receptions for foreign dignitaries. The Austrian Gallery displays a variety of 19th-century art in its galleries and has excellent displays of medieval and Baroque artwork. Located just south of the Lower Belvedere, the Museum of Military History houses many artifacts. Visitors can view Archduke Ferdinand's car, which was used when he was assassinated.
The Upper Belvedere has been the most lavish and opulent part of the palace. The museum halls, Alpine flora, and fresh fountains are a must-see for any visitor. The magnificent staircase is an exceptional feature in the Palace complex. The semicircular menagerie, east of the Upper-Belvedere, is a stunningly rich and fascinating area of the museum.
The park and the Upper Belvedere museum contain a fine collection of romantic and classical art. Famous artists in the Viennese Biedermeier movement are also represented in the museum. Portraits by Adalbert Stifter are among the most popular works of this time. The grounds are free to enter, and there are many other activities to enjoy. Visiting the Belvedere is a memorable experience.
