Mauritshuis was established in 1792, as the Royal Picture Gallery in The Hague. It later became a museum in 1822. After undergoing some minor renovations in the early 1980s, the Mauritshuis underwent a large construction project in 2012 to expand its exhibition space. The Mauritshuis now has more than 300,000 visitors a year. But how did it start? It was donated by William I, the son of King William V. In 1795, the Mauritshuis was a private collection of paintings, but this did not last long.

The Mauritshuis was once known as the Sugar palace. This was the name given to the building because it was constructed using sugar cane. Johan Maurits earned his fortune in Brazil by trading sugar cane. During this period, a large part of the building's exterior was constructed using the labor of enslaved Africans. The Mauritshuis was opened to the public in 2014, and the museum has been a major cultural center in the city.

It is best to go on a day when it is quiet. During the day, it is crowded, but quieter after 15:30 on weekdays. The Mauritshuis is also open on Thursdays until 20:00, but Mondays are the busiest day of the week. Although the Mauritshuis is open every day, it is recommended to make a reservation for the guided tour two weeks ahead.

The Mauritshuis Royal Picture Gallery has an extensive collection of paintings by different artists. Count Johan Maurits van Nassau-Siegen donated a number of paintings in 1816 and he left the museum an important gift. The Mauritshuis has a great collection of works by the famous artists, such as the Vermeer Girl with a Pearl Earring. A.A. des Tombe's bequest included twelve other important paintings.

In 2006, the Mauritshuis Royal Gallery began expanding its collection. In 1875, a foundation was formed to take over the museum, and began making acquisitions. In 1876, the museum was publicly owned, but a private foundation took over the collection and began expanding it. In addition to extending its collection, the Mauritshuis will also expand its exhibitions. The e-tickets are valid for one year and include the same prices as the regular tickets.

The Mauritshuis is located in the center of The Hague. The Mauritshuis is easily accessible by car, tram, and public transportation. The Mauritshuis is accessible from the Den Haag Central railway station, which is located next to the Binnenhof. The Mauritshuis Royal Gallery is a must-see for anyone who visits the city. A visit to this art gallery is an excellent way to spend a day or an evening in the city.
