5. Visit the Wat Pho
Located on Rattanakosin Island, directly south of the Grand Palace, the Wat Pho (or Phra Pho in Thai) is a Buddhist temple. It is also the site of a famous massage school and is a popular destination for tourists. The front entrance is modeled after a cave and there are many paintings and relief sculptures imparting Isan proverbs, Buddhist teachings and historical portraits. The temple is also known for its meditation practice, a good example of which is in the Photisankhun Meditation Hall, whose three pictures tell the story of Luang Pu Pho, a former abbot who was a highly respected insight meditation teacher.
It is not unusual to see monks collecting alms at this temple. They often wear long-sleeved shirts, t-shirts and trousers to protect themselves from the heat of the sun.
