How to report Someone on Discord ?

Always be aware that as a member of the Discord chat community, you are on your own when reporting someone. If you come across an individual who is engaging in harassment, you should take a few steps before reporting.

For starters, be aware that abusers can issue cryptic threats. These threats may be veiled, but they can be followed up with some very real consequences. Discord takes the safety of its users very seriously, so it’s important to use a few safety measures when discussing potential abusers. If you don’t feel comfortable, don’t send out a warning that doesn’t feel safe.

Once you have more concrete information, follow these guidelines when reporting someone.

Read the harassment policy

Before reporting someone, be sure to read the company’s harassment policy. Often times, users’ reports don’t get taken seriously unless you point out certain sections. For example, in the section “Inappropriate Content,” Discord states that, “By posting any content or materials on our service that violates this policy, you are also agreeing to the fine print, which states that it is at your own risk. It is your responsibility to ensure that any content you post is not in violation of any terms and conditions that may apply to your use of the service.”

Have your facts in order

Before you report someone, it’s important to ensure that your information is correct. You’re effectively accusing this person of being a member of the Discord community, and that’s not something you want to do lightly. When reporting someone, use the platform’s report button or email. Don’t send the person direct messages, and don’t send emails on their accounts.

It’s also important to make sure that what you’re accusing this person of is true. Make sure you’re really accusing the person of being involved in the harassment of another user. If it’s not true, chances are they’ll respond with something that’ll be even more confusing and make it even more difficult to get your concerns resolved.
