Jyotirlinga Temples Of Maharashtra 

Jyotirlinga is the form of Lord Shiva. People believe that Lord Shiva visited himself on the land of Jyotirlinga in the form of Shivling. The meaning of Jyotirlinga is the “Pillar of Light” which looks like a flame and doesn't have a beginning and ending point. In Maharashtra most of the temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva.

In India, there are a total of 12 Jyotirlingas located, and from that 5 Jyotirlingas are placed in Maharashtra.

  1. Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga
  2. Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga
  3. Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga
  4. Aundha Nagnath Jyotirlinga
  5. Parali Vaijanath Jyotirlinga

Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga :

In Maharashtra, special for Hindu peoples Trimbakeshwar temple has a very special significance.  Trimbakeshwar temple is located in Nashik city of Maharashtra. Nashik Trimbak village is 29 km away. Trimbakeshwar temple is very famous for Pooja and Rituals. Many devotees believe that Trimbakeshwar is the only solution for every dosh from the horoscope. Thousands of devotees come every year from all over India to perform Pooja like Kaal Sarp dosh, Narayan Nagbali Pooja, Tripindi Shradh Pooja, Kumbh Vivah Pooja, Tripindi Shradh Pooja, Rudrabhishek Pooja, Mahamrityunjay Pooja, etc. Between all 12 Jyotirlingas Trimbakeshwar is very special because it has three face lingas which represent “Trinities” Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh.  And Godavari river continues to flow starting on this Jyotirlinga. Those who visit Trimbakeshwar temple and take a holy bath in Godavari river get salvation.

Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga :

Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga is located in Pune city of Maharashtra. Bhima river flows near the Bhimashankar temple. Temple is 125 Km away from Pune city.  Bhimashankar temple was built with Nagara Architecture. The land of Bhimashankar temple is declared a wildlife sanctuary. This place is reserved for a forest. The state animal Malabar found rarely found here. It is said that the Bhimashankar temple is built by Kumbhkarna’s son Bheema.

Temple opening and closing time is 4:30 Am to 12 PM non and 4 PM to 9:30 PM.

Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga:

Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga is located in the Aurangabad city of Maharashtra. The temple is placed near the Elora caves. And it is the last among all 12 Jyotirlinga of India. The Huge Nandi and the red rock architecture is the biggest attraction of Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga.

Grishneshwar temple opening time is 5:30 Am to 9:30 PM

Aundha Nagnath Jyotirlinga :

Aundha Nagnath Jyotirlinga has located in the Hingoli district of Maharashtra.  It is believed that the first temple was built in the time of Mahabharta. And the temple is built by Yudhishthira elder brother between 5 Pandwas. The first temple is destroyed by Aurangjeba and the Current temple is built by Ahilyabai Holkar.

Parali Vaijanath Jyotirlinga :

This ancient Shiva temple is located in the Beed district of Maharashtra. And Parali Vaijnath temple is 300 year old temple. The opening time is 5 Am and closing time is 3:30 Pm and then from 6 Pm to 9 Pm
