The Day I Became A DJ
The brain is a funny dude. It is scientifically proven that it always tries to save it from everything. And that is why lots of people find themselves sitting in the comfort zone for a long time. I believe it is important to push yourself out of that zone if you are looking for some real personal growth and life improvement.
In my case, I have several areas I wanna challenge myself, and maybe there are things that are not on the list yet. One of those things was music. Since the very childhood, I wanted to master some kind of music instrument. I tried guitar when I was in a high school, I tried piano when I was in the university, I tried ukulele later on too. I liked them all but none of them became a major instrument that I enjoy playing.
Of course, it is important to clarify that I have that issue with doing small things in a long-term perspective. Also, I'm easily switched to the new things and a big procrastinator. But I believe the major reason of my failing musical career was that I never had a clear goal for learning.
Taking all of that in consideration, I decided to put myself out of the comfort zone as you can easily be soaked by it here in Bali. I made it by joining the Desoner DJ school. And this time I had a clear goal: I wanted to be able to play music at the party at a descent level. But in the process, I decided to take it to another level and I wanted to play for public at least once.
Looking ahead, I made it twice as for now. And it was one of the best moments I had in my life. But what is more important, the whole new world of music got opened to me. I found the creativity in the process of playing music as well as preparing the set in advance. And for the instruments, I felt from the lesson 1 that CDJ decks and Allen&Heath mixer are the best fit for me in terms of the concept: I live in a digital world most of my life, and these instruments are fully digital too. No surprise it was a match.
Now I feel like want to grow my music skills and I'm onto some new challenges in that regard. Of course, I'm not planning a DJ career but I'm pretty sure the more I play the more interesting and challenging the future would be.
Don't be afraid of new things and never stop learning.
