disco disco

You approach a young girl or a woman. It's hard for you to estimate her age on the go. Her eyes are watching the emptiness of the dark water and you can't be certain if she's gonna jump. And you don't know for sure if you or her can swim.

"Stop thinking about me jumping. I'm not that mad yet."

Her voice is drowning in the sound of the waves and they seem to only be glad to grab her legs and take her far away from here.

"Yet?"

The silly comment makes its way out far quicker than you expected. You hear the lieutenant shake his head and take a deep breath.

Yeah... You fucked up.

But to your surprise she smirks. Seems, it's not the first time she hears that.

"Everyone says so when I come here. Is there anything you want from me?"

Her empty gaze almost urges you to ask her "What's wrong with you?" but it would be too disrespectful, wouldn't it? Suddenly, her head turns from the enticing sea to you. Did she for real hear your question from the bottom of your throat?

"I'm fine. Sometimes I just need to clear my head and remind myself what the hell I'm doing."

"And you're doing what, exactly?"

"I'm on patrol. Don't you see it yourself?"

Who knew that watching the sea from the pier was considered patroling! She turns her head back to the water. You understand that she's not gonna say a single thing anymore. You take a few steps back when you hear a sharp exhale coming from her dried lips. The lady looks at her hands with curiosity and pent up anger. As if she's seeing them for the first time.

It may be just an assumption but you're watching a silhouette of a person not the material component. Perhaps she has already lost herself a long time ago just like you. She drowned in the dark water. She made the jump. And all that remained of her were quiet, empty, tired eyes and sighs.
