July 28 - Fingerprints are used for the first time

William Herschel, who served in India in 1853-1878, was the first European who decided to use fingerprints for search purposes.

At first, Herschel practiced fingerprinting when paying benefits to local residents.

Later, he proposed to use fingerprinting in one of the prisons of the district on July 28, 1858 - this is how the use of fingerprints in criminology began.

The technology is based on the uniqueness of the skin pattern. To date, fingerprint identification is the most common biometric technology.
