April 26 is the International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Radiation Accidents and Catastrophes
The International Day of Remembrance of the Chernobyl Disaster is intended to serve as a reminder of the danger of nuclear accidents and the need to strengthen international cooperation in mitigating the long-term consequences of the Chernobyl accident.
On this day in 1986 there was an accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant – the largest man-made disaster of the 20th century in terms of damage and consequences.
As a result of the accident, the territories of 17 European countries with a total area of 207.5 thousand square kilometers were exposed to radioactive contamination.
Despite the terrible consequences of the Chernobyl accident at the nuclear power plant, the three surviving power units continued to work, and were completely stopped only after many years.
We think you know the history of the Chernobyl disaster, so we will tell you little-known facts
