Will Napolini: Why Listen To A Single Word I Have To Say.
In this video, I'm going to be talking to you about why you should even listen to a single word that I've got to say on the topic of sales. And that really goes back to how I got my start. So I started off in sales when I was 17 years old and it was the typical kind of sales situation where I was working in an old shipping container with 13 other people and the sound of production in that shipping container was almost deafening.
We wouldn't put the phones down because we had to just keep dialing. We were making 100 cold calls an hour and I was terrible at it and I just absolutely sucked. And it was a real tough racket for me and it was my first kind of full time job and I never forget what a cold slap across the face that that was in getting involved in that situation and having to call upon 100 strangers an hour and really that whole process.
And what happened to me was I was kind of hired in a group of people and I was the worst out of those group of people. But the owner of that business saw something in me and he said, look, I'll give you another week, another week or two to kind of get up to up to speed. And if you're not up to speed, then, then I'm going to have to cut you loose.
And I never forget. It was kind of just that moment of him, I guess, believing in me and taking that chance in me. And I went home that night and I thought, look, I'm going to get this thing and I'm going to figure it out and I'm just going to approach it like a game.
And I went back the next day to work and I really started just to look at this whole sales game as a game. And I'd stopped talking about the company and how we were great as a company and I focused more on the end user and the customer and the prospect and all the pains and fears and their hopes and dreams and the things that they were looking to achieve in their life. And that was what I kind of zeroed in on and that's what I choose to focus on.
And it was really just that shift. It was that pivotal shift in mindset that really changed everything for me. I went from being the worst performer there to literally being their top producer overnight.
And I went on there. I was their top salesperson for months and months and months. And then I basically chose to kind of wrap up and move on and I moved over to London.
And then when I went over to London, I did multiple sales job. Like I've sold everything that you can possibly imagine from whether it's door to door, face to face over the phone, one to one, or one to many I've sold everything in pretty much every industry known to man. And really the process that I'm going to be talking about is not about some theoretical hoohah.
I haven't just gone and watched a bunch of YouTube videos or read a couple of sales books and now touting myself as a sales expert. I've been in the trenches on the front lines, doing sales, selling everything and imaginable for the past 17 years. And this was really something that came with a lot of heartache and a lot of pain for me to kind of refine this process and get it to the point where it is right now.
I've made over a million cold calls in my career. I've sold 20 million plus over the phone. So I just really want to stress to you that this is all coming from a place of practicality and of someone that's actually in the trenches doing this stuff.
