Meeting Ur Sugar
First dates can be awkward. You don’t know what to say, you keep interrupting each other, and it’s not quite what you had expected. We’ve all been there. That’s why we’ve prepared some tips and tricks to make your dating life more enjoyable and less like a chore. Meet your love now.
Be Yourself
I often find myself going on a frantic Googling spree right before a first date with someone new. “What should you wear on a first date?” “How much makeup is appropriate when you meet someone new?” and other questions of the sort overtake my search history. However, the best piece of advice I ever came across during one of these searches was this: just be yourself. If you’re meeting someone new, you will want to put your best foot forward. That doesn’t mean you should put someone else’s foot forward! By being yourself, you increase the chances of finding a good match for you, and you decrease the chances of finding yourself feeling disingenuous and guilty when you go home.
Be Prepared
While you don’t want to stress too much about what will be said or what will happen on your date, it can be helpful to be prepared with a few casual talking points or the answers to common questions. This isn’t an interview; you don’t need to say the “right” thing every time. However you might want to think about what you desire from this date. Are you going to kiss at the end of the night? Would you accept if the cutie asks you out again? These are good concepts to consider before you leave the house, and throughout the night as you get to know your date better.
You will also want to be prepared physically, bringing a small purse with you that contains your phone, wallet (in case you decide to “go dutch” and split the bill), and travel makeup to touch up your face when you get the chance to freshen up. If you don’t carry a purse, your pockets will be fine to contain your phone and wallet.
Be a Good Listener
Almost everyone likes to be asked questions about themselves. If you show interest in your date, it proves to them that you care about what they have to say. It also shows that you are a good listener if you retain what they said and ask questions that are related. Being a good listener means using your ears twice as often as you open your mouth (after all, there is a reason we have two ears and only one mouth). This is a genuine practice and a skill that takes some time to perfect. However, as you interact with friends and family, you’ll get better at listening to your date.
At the end of the day, if you can be genuine, be ready, and listen well on your date, you will have a much greater chance at success. While it is never guaranteed that you’ll be asked out a second time, putting these ideals into practice will increase the likelihood of having another date with your sugar.
