WE WANT CHANGE BY CHIPALO SALIMU

We Want Change Flash Fiction Review

GENRE: FLASH FICTIONTITLE: WE WANT CHANGE AUTHOR: CHIPALO SALIMU, Zambia Reviewer: LEBOGANG FAITH SAMSON, Botswana

Change is inevitable, who wouldn't change, " _we want change!_" anyway? I mean in a state where those in authority are corrupt it is very imperative for some demands to be forwarded by the citizens in this kind of behavior, always bore unpleasant hickhups in a state country which brings division.

We want Change is a flash fiction written by Chipalo Salimu from Zambia, the writter angled it through the world of politics portraying the protagonist as somebody who got to power with empty promises, the citizens were misled only to realised that they had the wrong perceptions about their leader. It's sad that they were thinking their president will help them to cross the Jordan river, alas! he is now a furgitive with his first lady. What were they running from? Did the President stepped down willingly or he was dethroned? Him acknowledging how much he knows South African ministers assert that he is really a 'connected' man. Such characters are already baptised in a pool of corruption. The citizens are unhappy hence a riot, its clear that they were sold a vague manifesto by the so called president who sat in the presidential suite being power hungry. They trusted him as he was deemed the wave of change, as typical by most leaders, they get lost through their cushioned lifestyle and loose focus hence disappoint their subordinate.

The revolution theme echoes throughout the story, from the title to start with, it cannot go by a chance to miss what the persona wanted the readers to pick.
Moreover, corruption, deceit seems to be one of the pinnacle themes spotted within the story. But, Chipalo did not create not much of a tight twist in this flash fiction but rather minor suspense. Brevity well maintained as well as unambiguity and the flow of language use is easy to reckon with. All at all, the author ensured to cover the whole ground as expected.

Change is always demanded and expected whenever a new phase surfaces and those troting behind the footsteps of those in power never have enough to stomach hence their demands will always pop out.
