KILLINGS FREE AGE BY CHIPO CHAMA
GENRE: POETRY TITLE: KILLINGS FREE AGE WRITER: CHIPO CHAMA, ZAMBIA REVIEWER: ANTHONY NWAGBAOSO ONYEADOR, NIGERIA
The poem is an interesting piece that outlines the state of murder owing to politicking. The poet clearly distances but affirms the distasteful nature of how politics eats up her citizens and yet refuses to bate an eyelid over it. The poet illustrates a staunch belief of hope and outcry of this evil atrocities of the time.
The poem begins with the euphemism of disrupting the colour of the skies in Line 1 of the opening stanza thereby pining it on Greed on line 5. It thus examines how this greed then manifests itself into narcissistic tendencies as cited in line 3 of the second stanza. Its results: brothers and sisters blood soaking as concluded in its stanza.
The third stanza gives us the root cause of the never ending act pointing it to Politics. The fourth stanza enumerates why Politics is the reason as it clearly poses in Tribal hatred. The last stanza encourages one to eschew this vice for peaceful coexistence and restructure each day anew through fresh starts.
