LOVE’S LOOSE KNOTS BY OKWAPUT ISRAEL

Love's Loode Knots Poetry Review

GENRE: POETRY TITLE: LOVE’S LOOSE KNOTS WRITER: OKWAPUT ISRAEL, UGANDA REVIEWER: SESAME MOOKODI, BOTSWANA

The influence of human emotion is not to be underestimated. Combine that with the safety of mutual reciprocation and find yourself lucky enough to fall into the deepest trance whilst falling from the greatest height. Completely consumed by its power.

This lyrical poem is riddled with descriptive writing tools to create a clear perception to entice the senses of the readers. This is started with the words/phrase in S1, L1, a metaphor, “Pregnant silence” (S1, L1) setting a tone for suspense. Next, a personification of a verb, “a calculated stare” (S1, L3) suggests underlying intent behind the verb which was also illustrated through the choice of word pointedly. Love’s loose knots has elements of a narrative form. Moments building on moments with a diction depicting an intoxicating mood; “stare of ecstasy”, “immaculate long neck”, “legacy of boldness”.
The mood towards the end of the poem becomes sombre. The writer refers to the subjects of the poem as amputates of love, which could represent a severance from love at the hand of a crossroad.
