THE LEGEND OF NOGAPOTSANE BY KELEBOGILE KEUTSULE

The Legend of Nogapotsane Children's Literature

GENRE: CHILDREN'S LITERATURE TITLE: THE LEGEND OF NOGAPOTSANE WRITER: KELEBOGILE KEUTSULE, BOTSWANA REVIEWER: LANYERO PATRA LUCILE, UGANDA

Various parts of Africa are enriched with numerous adorable tales about the existence of mystical creatures that had ultimate powers over the societies in which they lived.

This isn't exclusive of the great Nogapotsane, a well-known goddess who has powers over Xixau, a village in which she lives. Her power and aggressiveness are felt when the government workers are sent to build a game reserve in the village.

This story can be related to what happened when the white man invaded Africa. The gods communicated to various leaders and gave instructions that were to be followed.
I recommend this story for children aged 6, 7 and 8 because it is enriched with a lot of new vocabulary like mist, distinguished that such children can learn.

Besides, the little children can relate this story to what they are told in their local communities.
