A SONG OF REVOLUTION BY TRISHA

A Song of Revolution Poetry Review

GENRE: POETRY TITLE: A SONG OF REVOLUTION WRITER: TRISHA, UGANDA REVIEWER: SESAME MOOKODI, BOTSWANA

Songs signify unity and are often sung when unity is of the utmost importance. A song of revolution is a more than fitting title for this anaphora in which song is the weapon of change.

The writer opens by stimulating our vision. Each colour although used in a descriptive way, may also serve as a metaphor; representative of the one dimensional manner in which the people that sing for change and their emotions are perceived.

In stanza two, the revolution is dissected into the contributions made by the people all of which amount to a song of revolution. The distinction of the tear drop and the blood drop is important as it represents both the emotional and physical pain components.

In the final stanza, the tool of comparison is used again; the tumultuous events of the day are put side by side with the somber reality that hits at night. Each representing the polar moods experienced in such a short period of time.
