Protests Against Socialist Government in Albania
The opposition accuses the Socialist Party and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama of corruption, manipulation of early voting results and usurpation of the powers of the judiciary and other authorities.
Several thousand protesters gathered in the capital at the main government building. After clashes with the police, the protesters used Molotov cocktails.
The arrest last week of a law-maker from the Democratic Party, Erwin Salianji, was another reason for the unrest. A libel case has been filed against him, which his supporters called politically motivated.
