In Argentina’s Province of Misiones, Peronists Establish Cyber Police to Tackle “Hate Speech”, Met with Opposition by Libertarian President Milei
On Thursday, the provincial legislature of Misiones passed a bill sponsored by Peronist Carlos Rovira that establishes a special “anti-cybercrime” body. Among other acts, the bill’s cybercrime designation applies to cyber-bullying, “cyber-hate”, and deep fakes.
“Cybercriminals employ social engineering to defraud, threaten, and obtain personal data and other information from other people or organizations, obtain money, impersonate others, digitally and sexually stalk people. Examples include: phishing or vishing, cyber-bullying, grooming, sextortion, cyber-hate, child pornography, and more,” reads the explanatory note.
President Javier Milei, taking note of the Peronist initiative, reposted a tweet chastising the traditional media for staying silent on such dangerous legislation.
Journalists’ silence on the law sponsored by MP Rovira in Misiones is a perfect example of how the media will be an enemy of any structural change in Argentina… and those of us who lives in Argentina and want all the best for this blessed land must know of this.
