"Father" Apple Store said what will happen to the trade after the coronavirus
Coronavirus infection, which today infected more than a million people, not only endangered the life and health of people, but also called into question the future prospects of business development around the world. After all, if enterprises are unable to function properly and make money, it is obvious that most of them simply will not survive by the end of universal quarantine. Therefore, according to Ron Johnson, a former Apple vice president of retail, who, along with Steve Jobs, was creating the Apple Store, the trading industry will change dramatically after the end of the coronavirus pandemic.
Despite the fact that many large retailers will survive, although they will suffer quite noticeable losses, the coronavirus will most likely affect small and medium-sized businesses and, oddly enough, shopping centers, Johnson is sure. In his opinion, after the victory of mankind over the coronavirus, many shopping centers, or, as they are called in the USA, malls, simply will not open. And those that find in themselves the last forces to discover will very quickly close again and, possibly, forever. There are several objective reasons for this, which it would be completely unreasonable to underestimate or even deny it, the entrepreneur believes.
- Firstly, shopping centers, forced to stand idle without work during the quarantine period, suffer enormous losses. Few of them have a sufficient margin of safety to be able to resume work at its completion.
- Secondly, even after defeating the coronavirus, people will be afraid to visit public places for a long time, fearing infection. Therefore, the profitability of stores with products that are not related to basic necessities will be minimal, which means they will not be able to pay rent to shopping centers.
- Thirdly, the protracted quarantine has changed the approach of many to shopping. Now people who previously ignored online delivery services actively use them and find a lot of advantages in this. After all, if you deliver any goods for free, and then pick them up for free, if they didn’t suit you, then this is great and much more convenient than shopping on your own.
How to buy quarantined Apple appliances
Apple in this sense has an advantage over competitors in the form of a very popular online store. Therefore, even if the company cannot open its trading pavilions around the world, it will lose less in money than everyone else. After all, if a customer needs an Apple product, he knows that he can buy it online on the same conditions as in traditional retail. Only in this case, he still won’t have to go anywhere, and the courier will bring the goods directly to the door. Of course, Apple wants to reopen the Apple Store, it will not rush, said Johnson.
Johnson is actually right. Indeed, despite the fact that the income of large shopping centers is much larger than that of private coffee houses or jewelry stores, their losses will also be enormous. Therefore, it is logical that a simple one, because of which they cannot work, will seriously affect the financial condition of their owners. The situation is further aggravated by the fact that shopping and entertainment centers, unlike retail stores, simply cannot work through the Internet, and their existence has always been justified by the presence of visitors who loved to just wander around the shops.
Now most people no longer think about going to different pavilions. For many, the first priority is the issue of survival, and, apparently, the current situation is taming us so well that we are unlikely to abandon online shopping because of its convenience, speed and, most importantly, security. Shopping centers will not be able to give us any of this, which means that they will most likely be forced to either reorient themselves or simply shut down, because the world will never be the same again.
