How to install a theme

The installation of a theme file can look intimidating but this is a simple two-steps process. Below you can find steps on how to install your theme in Audacity 2.3+.

1st step: download & put a theme file in a specific location

Open our repository and select a theme you'd like to install. Your web browser will automatically save it in default Downloads location or ask you where to save it. Either way be sure to locate your file and move it to a specific location. It depends on your OS.

On Windows

Move ImageCache.png to %appdata%/audacity/Theme.

On Mac

Move it to ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/Theme.

On Linux

Place it in ~/.audacity-data/Theme directory.

If you don't have a Theme directory, you'll have to create it.

2nd step: choose 'Custom' under Theme preferences

Preferences window with Interface tab opened and Custom theme being selected

This step is the same for any platform. Open Audacity's Preferences (Edit Preferences) and under Interface tab find Theme option. Select Custom theme option. Now hit the OK button on the bottom of the Preferences window and you're good to go! You should be able to see your custom theme now in Audacity.
