7 Major Ways to Improve Your Brain Fitness

Brain is the central part of the nervous system, which is the center of control of the body, including conscious and unconscious processes. However, we get used to thinking that the brain is responsible only for creating thoughts, while its activity spreads on the entire work of our mind. Some types of brain activity are cognitive functions, such as memory, attention, thinking, and more. It is believed that the brain begins to form in babyhood, forgetting that the brain begins its development even during the formation of nervous tissue in the womb.

The process of brain formation begins 3–3.5 weeks after the beginning of pregnancy, at the moment when the embryo forms as three petals of different cells, one of which will be converted into a nerve tube. This channel will become more complex and will become a brain that will be able to make decisions, learn, love and create.

Brain fitness is expected to become increasingly important as baby boomers age, and along with increased longevity will come a predicted rise in cognitive diseases (so called “neurodegenerative disorders”) such as Alzheimer’s. There is good evidence that regularly scheduled cognitive exercises and activities can help delay the onset of the clinical symptoms of these dementias.

1. Meditation

Meditation has proven physical and mental health benefits. Meditation helps maintain a sense of calmness and eventually helps improve your focus and concentration. Now many researchers also suggest that meditation can make your brain process information quicker and more efficiently.

2. Exercise

Exercise not only improves your physical health but it also has a great impact on your brain health. Exercise helps keep your brain active and focused. While exercising you will experience increased blood flow all over your body. This stimulates a chemical change in the brain and helps enhance learning and thinking power.

3. Learn a New Skill

Keeping your brain always hungry to learn new information is the key to an active and healthy brain. If you think you have mastered a skill, then it’s time to move on to the next. Either you can try learning something that you love doing or you can just pick a new skill that you have not even heard of, either way, you are keeping your brain busy and engaged. This is a great way to improve brain fitness.

4. Eat for Your Brain

The foods you eat play a major role in maintaining the fitness of your brain. Foods like broccoli, blueberries, coffee, oranges, are a few foods that can greatly improve your brain fitness. Including vitamin B in your diet can also help with the proper functioning of the brain including whole grain cereals, leafy green vegetables, and dairy products.

5. Relax

On a busy day, find some time for yourself to just relax. Sometimes not doing anything is a great way to refresh your brain. Allocate a part of a day for yourself to just relax and to escape from reality. At this time, you can do any of your favorite activities like reading a book, singing, dancing, swimming, etc.

6. Quit Smoking

Smoking might have an adverse effect on an individual’s life. It not only affects your physical health but also has a huge impact on a person’s mental health. People who smoke have higher chances of getting dementia when they become older.

7. Think Positive

A negative mindset will not let you concentrate or focus. It totally suppresses your confidence and is a great sign of an unhealthy brain. Developing a positive mindset will have a huge impact on your brain health. It will help you come out of a narrow mindset and get a new perspective on life.
