The Megatherion, Retaliation has come
Today is another story about The The Megatherion, the monstrous engine created by the Dark Mechanicum.
Please enjoy.
On the frozen moon of Sinadar Tertius, the temporary outpost of the Iron Butchers has been caught in a blitz attack by a Death Guard Warband of the Virulent Engine.
About a century before, the Iron Butchers allied with the Nurgle Cult to create a new, powerful strain of techno-virus.
Both the Warbands, however, planned to destroy their temporary ally to claim the new creation for themselves.
The Virulent Engine stroke first, and the Iron Butchers hit harder, suffering great losses but securing the virus for themselves before fleeing into the Immaterium.
Thanks to the virus, the Warband achieved power unthinkable before, their greatest achievement being a monstrous, living forge-vessel injected with the powerful techno-virus.
The Virulent Engine, they thought, was long gone now. How wrong they were.
Unlike many other Death Guard Warbands, the Virulent Engine attacked the Iron Butchers outpost even before shooting a single bullet: the Khornate fortresses and vessel were assaulted by murder-cogitators and daemon-possessed machine spirits trying to turn off their defenses.
Even with the aid of their Warpsmiths and the protection of the Dark Mechanicum, the Khornate couldn’t fully oppose the cyber-onslaught brought by the Death Guard
Without any chance of standing against the Death Guard in a defensive position, the Iron Butchers had to meet the servants of Nurgle in the open field, trying to annihilate them before their defense could crumble, leading the Warband to certain death.
Victory has to be insured fast, and at any cost, or the defeat would've been complete.
So the Megatherion was unleashed.
Crafted by the best Warpsmith and Hereteks of the Warband under the scrutiny of the Warsmith himself, this unique daemon engine was a conglomerate of brutal, dark technology hosting dozens of Khornate daemons.
It was so uncontrollable and destructive that even the Iron Butchers are reluctant to deploy it, as its release would bring death between both foes and allies.
