About Me
Hi! My name is Dan Calloway. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I enjoy walking, reading, writing, blogging, eating, worshipping with others and spreading the Good News, working with computers, and creating YouTube videos on technology-related topics. Sometimes, I even like to program! I program primarily in PHP and Julia, a programming language I've recently undertaken which is designed for mathematics and Computer Science. I live in Western North Carolina with my wife, Jeannie, and my son, Dennis. I am in a loving marital relationship with my wife whom I have known since 1980. I've been married since September 1981.
I'm a retired naval officer. I retired from Active Duty as a Lieutenant Commander aviation logistics officer. I served from April 1977 until I retired under the Clinton Temporary Early Retirement Act in September 1994. I restored my service calendar to 20 years by serving the remaining time for a non-profit local government organization in Buncombe County, NC, where I began a career as an IT professional until 2009.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Asheville from 1975. In 2005, I returned to the school requesting admission to Capella University in Minneapolis, MN. I graduated in 2008 with a Master of Science degree in Information Technology with a specialization in network architecture. I applied to Capella University's doctoral program in the School of Business and Information Technology and was accepted. I began my doctoral program in the Spring of 2008 and completed all my core classes (256 quarter hours) and two of three required colloquia.
I'm now fully retired but continue to pursue my hobbies and other interests.
