Political repression in Russia is intensifying. The authorities have long failed to observe the basic law of the country, the Constitution of the Russian Federation, and have introduced openly repressive laws, such as the law on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces, the law on the use of fakes, and the law on unsanctioned rallies. Because of this, almost any opposition political activity in Russia becomes criminally punishable. In connection with this, cases of arrests of civil activists have recently become more frequent. For example:

Today is June 12, Russia Day, aka Independence Day. On this day, 32 years ago, the first Congress of People's Deputies adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the RSFSR, which then finally gained independence and subsequently became the Russian Federation. We had a chance to become a prosperous democratic country. But, alas, we lost that chance ten years later when Vladimir Putin became president of Russia.

On behalf of the European Movement of Russia, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the European LGBTQIA+ community (for convenience, hereinafter referred to as LGBT) on the beginning of Pride Month. Human rights organizations report that despite the fact that the legislation in the EU countries regarding the protection of minorities is almost perfect, European LGBT people themselves continue to regularly face discrimination from society, and are sometimes harassed and become victims of hate crimes.

We need democratic organizations, democratic parties. But if we just create them, they will be made up of the same citizens with authoritarian propaganda in their heads. And we will get so-called liberal-democratic parties with Zhirinovsky again. So first of all, we should increase the number of people with democratic values, so there will be people from whom...

The upsetting events taking place in Ukraine at the fault of the neighboring state, which began long before the so-called "special operation," namely, by supporting the autocrat Yanukovych, who had lost his legitimacy during the Revolution of Dignity, the annexation of Crimea, and the creation of the so-called "people's republics". The so-called "people's republics" once again proved the invalidity of nationalist, pan-Slavic arguments that Russia, at least Putin's Russia, wished Ukraine well on the grounds that they share a "common history". Proponents of this theory have repeatedly told Ukrainians, "Why do you need Europe? The European Union doesn't need you. They are strangers; they only use you".
