Harriet Andersson's Birthday

On February 14, 1932 in Stockholm, in the family of naval officer Johan Walfried Harry Andersson and his wife Agda Teresia, nee Mattsson, daughter Harriet was born.

Gycklarnas afton (Sawdust and Tinsel). Director Ingmar Bergman, 1953.

Harriet's love for the theater manifested itself from childhood. While still at school, she began to attend the youth studio of the Theater School, the founder and head of which was the well-known Swedish actor and director Carl Emil Anders "Calle" Flygare. As is often the case with children and teenagers involved in theatrical studios, Harriet Andersson was often called upon to appear in cameo roles in films and television films. Between 1949 and 1952, Harriet Andersson appeared in episodic roles, often uncredited, in 16 movies and television films.

Sommaren med Monika (Summer with Monika). Director Ingmar Bergman, 1953.

But this work has not been in vain. In 1952, Harriet Andersson received one of the main roles in the film "Trots (Defiance)" directed by Gustaf Molander. The film was not particularly famous, but Harriet in this role caught the eye of Ingmar Bergman. And not only as an actress. Bergman especially for Harriet Andersson wrote the script for the film "Sommaren med Monika (Summer with Monika)", which was released in 1953. With this film, the creative community and romantic relationship between Bergman and Andersson began.

Kvinnodröm (Dreams). Director Ingmar Bergman, 1955.

Romance of Andersson and Bergman did not last long - just two years. Perhaps because Bergman was at that time married to Gun Grut, who worked as a translator and teacher of Slavic languages, and Andersson was engaged to actor Per Oscarsson. The termination of the romantic relationship between Andersson and Bergman had no effect on their creative collaboration. Andersson starred in Bergman's films until the mid-80s. In total, Harriet Andersson has appeared in 9 feature films and one TV movie directed by Ingmar Bergman. Subsequently, in his memoirs, Bergman wrote about Andersson:

"Harriet Andersson is one of the cinematographic geniuses. You only meet a few rare shimmering species on the winding road through the jungle of the trade."
Sommarnattens leende (Smiles of a Summer Night). Director Ingmar Bergman, 1955. Movie's Rating - 8,168; 517th Rank in the Golden Thousand.

The genius of Harriet Andersson as an Actress is also manifested in the fact that, unlike the countless film models who flooded the screens and imagine themselves as actresses, she is not afraid to appear before the audience in a repulsive and even ugly appearance.

Fanny and Alexander. Director Ingmar Bergman, 1982. Movie's Rating - 10,347; 27th Rank in the Golden Thousand.

In total, Harriet Andersson's filmography up to date includes 67 full-length feature films, not counting the huge number of roles in short films and television films. Of these 67 films, 5 films entered the Golden Thousand. Thanks to this indicator and thanks to her special beauty and the "strong erotic charisma" noted by many, Harriet Andersson is included in the list of the 100 most beautiful and sexiest Actresses in world cinema, compiled by FilmGourmand.

SĂ„som i en spegel (Through a Glass Darkly). Director Ingmar Bergman, 1961. Movie's Rating - 8,762; 222nd Rank in the Golden Thousand.

Harriet Andersson's acting talent has won 10 international film awards, including such prestigious awards as the Bodil Prize of the Danish Film Academy, the David di Donatello Prize of the Italian Film Academy, prizes of the Venice and Moscow International Film Festivals.

Viskningar och rop (Cries & Whispers). Director Ingmar Bergman, 1972. Movie's Rating - 9,493; 83rd Rank in the Golden Thousand.

In honor of the Birthday of the great Actress of Swedish and world cinema, I would like to remind fans of her work the shots from the best films with her participation.

Dogville. Director Lars von Trier, 2003. Movie's Rating - 8,975; 172nd Rank in the Golden Thousand.
