Birthday of the Pirates of the Caribbean
June 28, 2003 in Disneyland, California (USA), the premiere of the film "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl". Director Gore Verbinski.
In a short time, the film hit the screens of almost the whole world and brought significant profit to its creators: with a film budget of $ 140 million, its world fees exceeded $ 650 million.
The film received 38 film awards, however, all these awards were received either in technical nominations or at minor film forums.
Several hundred articles, reviews, etc., mainly laudatory, were devoted to the film. But there are also negative reviews. What is characteristic, in both positive and negative reviews, Johnny Depp has a special role in the success of the picture. Almost all reviewers agree on one thing: thanks to the "buffoonery", "mocking", "clownish", etc., the way Depp plays the film becomes quite watchable by viewers of all ages.
If Depp hadn’t been with his “mocking” manner of playing, the center of gravity in the film would have been fencing fights, drawn out to infinity. The feeling that the fights are prolonged arises because of their apparent illogicality, which is noted in most reviews: what is the point of fighting the dead if it is impossible to kill them? It was for this specific manner of playing Johnny Depp, the guru of American film critic Roger Ebert awarded the film three stars out of 4 possible. Were it not for Depp, perhaps the film would not have received a single one.
The film "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" marked the beginning of a series of movies about the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow. However, only the very first film got into the Golden Thousand: the rating of each subsequent, as often happens, was lower than the rating of the previous one. The ratings of the last, at the moment, film of 2017 did not reach 7 either according to IMDB or according to Kinopoisk.
However, even the last film of the series brought profit to its creators, since box office exceeded the costs of its production and market promotion. True, only 2 times, and not 4, as the first film. From this we can conclude: the creation of films about Jack Sparrow will continue, at least as long as the franchise makes a profit.
Almost 76% of IMDB and Kinopoisk users gave this film a rating from 8 to 10.
Taking into account all the above indicators of the success of the picture, its rating according to the version of FilmGourmand was 8.254, due to which it took 441st Rank in the Golden Thousand.
