Marlen Khutsiev's Birthday

On October 4, 1925, in the family of the Deputy People's Commissar for Internal and Foreign Trade of the USSR Martyn Khutsiev (Khutsishvili) and his wife Nina (nee Utenelishvili), an actress, a son was born, who was named, as it was then accepted, in honor of the founders of Marxism - Leninism by Marlen.

In 1937, again, as was customary at that time, Marlen's dad, a member of the Bolshevik party with pre-revolutionary experience, a participant in the civil war, was repressed and shot. However, Marlen's mother, despite her noble origin, was not affected by the repression, so Marlen was able after graduating from school to enter the Director's Department of VGIK (All-Union State Institute of Cinematography), which he finished in 1950.

After graduating from VGIK, Marlen Khutsiev worked at the Odessa Film Studio as an assistant director. In 1956, Marlen Khutsiev together with Felix Mironer directed the first full-length feature film in his creative biography - "Spring on Zarechnaya Street".
