On December 25, 1949 in the small town of Quinto, Texas, USA, a daughter was born to the family of Edwin Arnold Spacek, a county agricultural agent of Czech-German origin. The girl was named Mary Elizabeth. From early childhood, brother Robbie, who was a year older than Mary Elizabeth, called her Sissy.
When Mary Elizabeth was 17, her beloved brother died of leukemia. In memory of him, the girl changed the name given at birth to the name "Sissy". Under this name, she became famous.
The original occupation of Sissy was the performance of songs of his own composition in various audiences: cafes, restaurants, etc. Moreover, Mary Elizabeth began performing from the stage at the age of 6. But at the very beginning of the 70s of the last century, fate brought Sissy to Andy Warhol. She starred in non-credited role in one of Warhol's films, entitled "Trash". This role - a girl sitting in a bar - was cut from the final version of the film. But then Sissy had a desire to become an actress. To fulfill this desire, Sissy entered the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute, a real “forge of cadres” for American cinema.
Two years later, Sissy made her acting debut as Poppy, a girl sold into sexual slavery, in Michael Ritchie’s movie Prime Cut. And a year later, Sissy starred in Terrence Malik's film "Badlands". The role in this film brought Sissy, firstly, international fame, and secondly, changes in his personal life. On the set of this film, Sissy met her future husband, art director Jack Fisk.
Sissy and Jack got married in 1974 and have been happily married for 46 years. In 1982 and 1988, their daughters were born.
To date, Sissy Spacek has 40 roles in full-length feature films. 4 of these 40 films are included in the Golden Thousand.
