Anniversary of Ettore Sсola

May 10 marks the 90th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Italian filmmaker Ettore Scola. Ettore Scola was born in the small town of Trevico, into a large family of a doctor, but from early childhood he lived in Rome. Graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Rome. However, the talent of a draftsman and caricaturist, manifested in him from early childhood, led him to the fact that from the age of 15 he began to draw comics and scenes for famous comedians. In the end, thanks to this talent, he got into the cinema.

The first full-length feature film - the comedy "Se permettete parliamo di donne (Let's Talk About Women) - was shot by Ettore Skola in 1964. The directorial biography of Ettore Sсola lasted almost 40 years. During this time, he shot 29 full-length feature films. At 80, he suddenly announced his retirement from the cinema. He explained his decision as follows: “The current laws of filmmaking and distribution no longer suit me. The most important thing for me is to have freedom of choice and to retain the right to say “no” free. Today the market decides everything. Of course, the market played its role in the past, but there has always been room for independence and for exceptional things." Five years later Ettore Scola passed away.
