She never won an Oscar ... and an Oscar never won her

On September 3 (but the year is still disputed: 1926, 1928 or 1929) in the Greek village of Hiliomodi, in the vicinity of ancient Corinth on the Peloponnese, a girl named Irini Leleku was born into a family of teachers. After marriage and the adoption of her husband's last name in 1947, her name was changed to Irini Pappa. But she gained worldwide fame of the most outstanding Greek actress under the name Irene Papas.
