Jacqueline Bisset's Birthday

On September 13, 1944, in the ancient town of Weybridge, Surrey, England, the girl named Winfred Jacqueline was born into the family of Max Fraser-Bisset, a Scotsman, a district physician, and his wife Arlette Alexander, half French, half English, architect and lawyer.

Thanks to the French roots of her mother, Jacqueline spoke French since childhood, which allowed her to graduate from the Lycee Francais Charles de Gaulle in London. In addition to studying at the Lycee, Jacqueline took ballet lessons, and having matured, acting lessons. Jacqueline paid for these lessons herself, moonlighting as a model.

Thanks to her work in the modeling business, Jacqueline got into the cinema. In 1965, she played her first role, albeit episodic and without mention in the credits. The film was titled "The Knack ...and How to Get It" directed by Richard Lester. However, in the same way, without mentioning in the credits, two more future movie stars played in this film: Jane Birkin and Charlotte Rampling. And a year later, Jacqueline Bisset played her first, rather large role, in the film "Cul-de-sac" by Roman Polanski.

The first time I saw Jacqueline Bisset in the movie "Le magnifique (The Man from Acapulco)" sometime in the year 1975. In her filmography, this was already the 20th role, but previous films with her participation in the USSR were not shown. Since the Soviet cinema viewers saw Jacqueline Bisset for the first time in a French film, the conviction was initially formed that Bisset was a French actress. And some, especially advanced experts, argued that, according to the rules of the French language, her last name has to be pronounced as Bissey, with an emphasis on the last syllable. But to check - there was no way. What you want: the Iron Curtain and no internet. However, even today, in the absence of a curtain, Russian Wikipedia gives instructions to make stress on the last syllable in her surname. Although the English Wikipedia clearly indicates the stress on the first syllable. And this is no coincidence, since Jacqueline is Frenchwoman onlyfor a quarter, and for three quarters - quite a British - Winfred Jacqueline Fraser-Bisset.

The second encounter of the Soviet cinema audience with Jacqueline Bisset took place when watching the film "The Deep", which took place in the early 80's. In terms of cinematography, the film was nothing special. But! It was after this film, and it was thanks to Jacqueline, that the fashion for competitions in wet t-shirts, so popular among modern youth, went. And the producer of this film, Peter Huber, admitted that the film owes its box-office success (a 5-time excess of fees over the budget!) exclusively to the Jacqueline's wet T-shirt.

And in the late 80s, Soviet film distribution gave the Soviet cinema audience an erotic film, “Wild Orchid,” in which Jacqueline Bisset played one of major roles. True, the main erotic "load" in this film was borne by other, younger actresses. But Bissett, nevertheless, was the decoration of this film.

In addition, by that time, we, Soviet cinema viewers, thanks to the perestroika and weakening of ideological barriers, already knew about the romance between Jacqueline Bisset and our ballet “defector” Alexander Godunov, we already knew about how Jacqueline saved Alexander, who fell into unbridled drunkenness, when Mikhail Baryshnikov kicked him out of his ballet troupe. Jacqueline then, using her many contacts in the cinematic world, managed to push him into several Hollywood films, including the legendary Die Hard. Romance of Bisset and Godunov was one of the fashionable topics of the Western press in the mid-80s.

I don’t know exactly what made them break up, but I can assume that it was precisely because of their breakup that Godunov started drinking again and died of hepatitis aggravated by alcoholism in 1995. And Jacqueline by that time was already with Vincent Perez, who was 20 years younger than her.
