The film "Pelle the Conqueror" is a film adaptation of one of the four parts of the epic novel of the Danish writer Martin Andersen-Nexø (1869-1954), the founder of the Danish Communist Party. The novel was published in 1906-1910. In the Soviet Union, this novel was published in a 10-volume collected works in 1951-1954.
