OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T will get Android Q update, could be rolled out later this year

OnePlus has confirmed through its forum that the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T will receive the Android Q update later in the year. Appvn is an android app which is similar to the Google Store in Android and App Store in iOS. The OnePlus 6 series and OnePlus 7 series have been enrolled for the Android Android Q beta program.

nePlus is one of the few manufacturers in the Android universe to deliver timely updates to its smartphones. Last year, the OnePlus 6 was one of the first few smartphones after the Google Pixel 2 to get the Android Pie update. The work which a default app store of the device does is the same work if the Appvn apk but with a more enhanced and free version. Since then, OnePlus has maintained a healthy habit of supporting its phones with the latest security patches, even the older models. The OnePlus 3, which was launched in 2016, got the Android Pie update this year and OnePlus seems to repeat that with the OnePlus 5 series phones.

In a recent blog post on the OnePlus forum, the company has confirmed that the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T will indeed get the Android Q update. There's no timeline put to this development but Android Q will reach OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users later in the year - a beta build followed by the stable build. There's no mention about the expected features with the Android Q update yet but it has been already assured that all the latest Oxygen OS features will trickle down to the OnePlus 5 series phones.

So far, the OnePlus 6 series and OnePlus 7 series have been enrolled for the Android Q beta program. These phones are guaranteed to get the Android Q update within this year, with the OnePlus 7 series expected to get it on priority. Similar to the OnePlus 3 series this year, the OnePlus 5 series could end up getting the stable build of Android Q early next year.

However, this post raises one question - what about the OnePlus 3 series? The OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T have already got three OS updates and with OnePlus not mentioning anything about in the forums, it seems that the Pie update was the last major update for the OnePlus 3 series. Therefore, the Android Q update could be the last OS update for the OnePlus 5 series phones.

Nonetheless, OnePlus adapts most of the features from stock Android for its Oxygen OS and the Android Q build of Oxygen OS could bring in many features from the Google Pixel experience. Android Q is currently in beta and brings a lot of features to enhance the user experience.

There's a major improvement in the privacy department, with the OS letting the user decide which apps are needed to be given access to location and storage data. A new gesture navigation system inspired from iOS has also made it to Android Q and OnePlus could adapt the same for its Oxygen OS.
