Ovoza news about Hayot Shelter and Mushukkent project (video)
In such severe frosts it is not easy not only for people, but also for animals. We can see this in social media videos of animals freezing in the streets. But there are kind-hearted people who, in terrible cold, are not indifferent to our smaller brothers. Ovoza news correspondent interviewed the founder of Hayot Shelter for Stray Dogs.
A dog named Bunny [Chimgan actually] hid in a house with a green roof. He was met almost daily with indifferent and disgusted glances. Until it fell into the good hands of Iroda Matkarimova, who is the founder of the Hayot and Mushukkent projects. And not only Bunny [Chimgan actually] got such a chance. In addition to him, she has more than 6,000 dogs and 2,000 cats [shelter actually does not keep cats in the shelter at all. If local services trapping homeless animals bring cats to the shelter we send cats to our friends Klimushka Shleter].
Iroda Matkarimova: “If my memory serves me, I have invested in saving 15,000 animals and I am very proud of it.” As evidence, you can see more than 300 cat houses built for stray cats as part of the Mushukkent project and these shots.
Of course, the contribution of volunteers in saving the lives of animals is also invaluable. Iroda Matkarimova: “Because of the severe cold, the number of volunteers who extended a helping hand expanded. People send us the money that we used to buy heaters for animals. A lot of people and organizations gave us 1-2 million soums each. Even today, 8 tons of food have been donated. It is nice to realize that people in Uzbekistan are not indifferent to animals.”
Thanks to such gratuitous gestures, not only dogs and cats are helped, but also donkeys. Who froze in such abnormal cold.
Iroda Matkarimova: “People leave defenseless animals on the roads. But we do not pass by and save them. Today we have 5 donkeys.”
According to Iroda Matkarimova, Mushukkent is a long-term project. As part of this project, in the near future they are going to purchase a bus for cats and cats, which will be used by the castration and rehabilitation center. In addition, there are many unrealized plans.
Iroda Matkarimova: “I want to open a pasture for donkeys. In which we will invite tourists. Where tourists can see the life of donkeys and dogs.” Hayot Homeless Animal Shelter has started teaching kindness lessons for children in the capital's schools, where they teach them to be kinder and more responsible towards animals.
