Uzbekistan, Tashkent - Podrobno.uz newspaper.
Group of volunteers from the "Hayot" shelter has visited the Syrdarya region to save the animals left there, the Podrobno.uz correspondent reports.
According to them, in the area where the flood occurred, there are a lot of dead animals - cows, sheep, and other pets that were simply washed away by the water. However, National Guard officers have been rescuing everyone - both people and pets - since the first day of the outbreak of the natural disaster, for which they are all very grateful. Dogs are removed from their chains and taken to dry land, where they are picked up by their owners.
"It's hard to see the picture of flooded and destroyed homes. After hearing that we are volunteers and rescue animals, the residents themselves gave their pets to us. But don't blame them in your heart, their priority now is to try to feed themselves and their families", said Iroda Matkarimova, head of the "Hayot" shelter.
According to another volunteer, Iroda Tillaboeva, the animals were hungry, skinny, and dirty.
"We didn't expect this and didn't have leashes. We carried the dogs back in our arms. They seem like big dogs, but they were so thin that even girls were able to carry them. I cannot emphasize enough how bad the situation was. We got there at 1 pm. The women were refused to enter due to safety reasons, so our men rescued the animals. They saved the animals while they were literally in the water, they walked and measured the water depth with sticks. In this muddy from waste, blood, flesh, swollen dead animals water (sometimes up to their breast level) they managed to save about 25 dogs, also several cats and a kitten", - she emphasized.
Some of the dogs, she said, were leashed, and some were still guarding the house, or rather the remains of the house.
