Best Indie Music of 2019 - A Indie Music Review
I was, to paraphrase Brian Epstein,'shouting Martin's name from the roof tops' for several years in an effort to bring his music to the general attention.
It is instantly obvious from the first bars of'Be That Man', the opening song from Martin's first solo album,'Where Have I Been Your Life?' , that here is a talent that has just waiting to burst . It fairly bristles with excitement and rushes the listener along at a lively pace, through a tale of normal yearning and fantasies unfulfilled. Further songs with this and his subsequent albums only confirm Martin's gift as a composer. From the unsuccessful'My Clown Career', along with it's dark,'Kashmir' - enjoy sense and power of foreboding, to the tongueincheek jangle of'Hemel Hempstead Boy','' it's apparent here is just a song writer of amazing ability. My first experience of Martin's songs left me exhilarated and needing to know more. To know more please read here Indie Music Blog.
Martin Brown, UK songwriter and singer / performer, has published three solo records on independent labels throughout the last three years. On each one of these albums, Martin plays with all devices and manages all hands on duties. People people who have heard Martin's songs are full of compliments for them and have voiced astonishment he has not made a greater impression to the listening public. Jeff Giles, at a review of Martin's first two solo albums that seemed in your website'Popdose', highly commended Martin's abilities as a songwriter and musician and stated, in his own opinion, Martin was writing songs that were the equal of anything Neil Finn (Crowded House) and Andy Partridge (XTC) had produced.
The aforementioned records,'Where Have I Been All Your Life?' Jeff also reviewed this record, citing it as'possibly Martin's most complete and pleasing number of songs so far'.
A brief record of Martin's profession:-
Martin, the sole child of artist , was born and raised in Hemel Hempstead near London and showed early promise as being a guitarist and began his professional musical life throughout his teens. He spent a long time during the early 70's, vacationing with'The Stroll Band' at Germany and Holland, later linking'Born Free' back in the UK. Following this, Martin joined forces with drummer Keith Chapman, forming the ring'Spoils', who affirmed Paul Young and were also a remarkably popular band on the team and university circuit and also after that Keith and Martin formed'The Sugar Glyders' and bassist Paul Thomson. The group also donated further monitors to a Lost Moment Records sampler record,'Colours of The Bastard Art'.
Martin continued to record with Keith Chapman, overdubbing instruments and vocals which resulted in his current working processes. He also composed and recorded material together with Russ Ballard, million-selling song writer.
Back in 2018, he published his ode to town,'Hemel Hempstead Boy', included on his second album'Butterflies'. This contributed to interviews on BBC radio in addition to live sessions. Martin also won the BBC 3 Counties''Independent Musician' contest, resulting in further radio work.
Martin is a professional guitarist, thankfully he shows admirable taste, purely with his guitar act within an embellishment to his own songs instead of smothering them into solos! The songs differ from Beatles / / Crowded House acoustic songs, to far rockier edgy-sounding stuff. In latest work, Martin has tried his hand in a dance-oriented material. All this really is even more amusing if it is loved that he plays everything that's discovered on all his songs!
