Volkswagen Tiguan: 5 seats or 7 seats? What are the differences?

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace was launched in Malaysia on August 12, 2020. This model is a complement to the existing regular Tiguan in Malaysia. Compared with the conventional 5-seater Volkswagen Tiguan, the highlight of this model is the additional 2 seats.

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is the only 7-seater Volkswagen model. Volkswagen is one of the few European manufacturers that has 7-seater variants in Malaysia in addition to Peugeot 5008, Volvo XC90 and Ford Everest.

Variation difference
Both 7-seater Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace have 2 variants. At the same time, the five-seater Volkswagen Tiguan has only one variant. All Volkswagen Tiguan variants are installed in Beigendi.

In short, you can upgrade your 5-seater Volkswagen Tiguan to 7-seater for only RM2,000. However, there are other factors before deciding to buy this Volkswagen Tiguan.

Size difference In contrast, the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is slightly smaller than the Mitsubishi Outlander. In addition, the Mazda CX-8 is slightly larger than the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.

The reason why the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace stands out from the ordinary 5-seater Volkswagen Tiguan is its size. The distance between the wheels of the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace has increased by 110 mm to 2,791 mm. Its length has increased to 4,704 mm, which is 215 mm longer than the regular Volkswagen Tiguan.

The increased length of the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace also provides additional space. The knee space is 60 mm long, and after all seats are folded, the cargo space is increased to 1,770 liters. The 5-seater Tiguan suitcase is only 1,655 liters in size (all seats are foldable).

Design difference
There are no obvious design differences in this 7-seater Volkswagen. The front design of this car is still the same, but the design of the windows after the C-pillar (C-pillar) is different due to the increase in the length of the car.

At the rear, Volkswagen Tiguan 5 and 7 seats can be distinguished by the taillight design. The 5-seater Volkswagen Tiguan light is thinner, while the 7-seater Volkswagen Tiguan light is thicker.

Moving to the top, no ridge is visible on the 5 Volkswagen Tiguan. At the same time, the 7 Volkswagen Tiguan has a ridge. Do you know the purpose of this ridge? Read our article here.

Functional difference
Unless you continue to buy the top variant of the Volkswagen Tiguan, there are no important functions between the Volkswagen Tiguan 5 and 7 seats. Both models are powered by a 1.4-liter TSI engine equipped with a 6-speed DSG gearbox coupling, but only have a seat differential.

The biggest complaint of Volkswagen Tiguan is of course that none of the models have driver assistance systems (ADAS). However, ADAS is not provided to maintain such relatively competitive prices. Remember, ADAS is only driver assistance, not a system to ensure your safety.

Most people like the new 7-seater Volkswagen Tiguan because it brings better value than the 5-seater Volkswagen Tiguan.
