Renault may start revival plan with new electric SUV
Earlier this year, Renault and its alliance partner Nissan announced a new cooperation agreement to share a broader platform, technology and production resources to improve efficiency. This will also enable Renault to gain a strategic leadership position in the European market under the leadership of the new head, Luca de Meo. Although he only took office in July this year, De Mayo has already begun to comprehensively adjust the product roadmap of the Renault brand. His goal is to turn Renault, which lost ÂŁ6.5 billion in the first half of 2020, into profit.
So far, Renault has sold more than 54,000 ZOEs this year. In addition, Renault's electric vehicle sales in July increased 98% year-on-year to 10,468 units, and its electric vehicle sales in August increased 73% year-on-year to 7,047 units.
This is a very strong sales performance. So far this year, Renault has sold more than 60,000 electric vehicles. In contrast, in last year's record, Renault's annual sales volume was 61,000. This accounts for only 6% of Renault’s global passenger car sales and 3.7% of light commercial vehicles. However, since electric vehicles are almost exclusively sold in Europe, Renault’s European share is close to 10.5% and 4.6%, respectively.
Compared with June and July, the sales volume of Renault ZOE in August remained flat, but it still increased a lot compared to the same period last year. Zoe's sales growth largely depends on the fast-paced update of body specifications and parameters. The 2020 Zoe equipped with a new 52kWh battery pack is also one of the great improvements.
Renault said it can achieve a WLTP rated cruising range of 390 kilometers, which is very good for a compact car.
