2021 Audi Q5‘s available digital OLED lighting technology

Lighting systems have always been an area of Audi's expertise. Who can forget the first appearance of DRL LED on the "Starkmobile" Audi R8 in 2007. Looking ahead, the Audi Q5 2020 is the first Audi model equipped with digital OLED taillights.

Why use OLED?

First, it can achieve various brightness. Second, it can be divided into several parts. Third, it does not require the same reflector, fiber or optics. This makes the OLED unit very efficient, lightweight and flat-easy to design modifications.

OLED technology has been used in Audi TT RS and Audi malaysia of A8 models. Using digital OLED, it can provide higher precision and greater design flexibility. In fact, animation effects can be applied. This indirectly converts the backlight into a TV screen or smartphone screen.

Dr. Werner Thomas, the project manager of OLED technology, said that taillights have become a form of exterior projection of cars, which will bring us many opportunities and prospects in terms of design, communication, modification and safety.

Customers who choose digital OLED technology have three special functions on the brake lights when buying a car. This function will vary according to the driving mode on "Audi drive select".

Another important function is the safety upgrade of the distance detection system. For example, when a stationary Audi Q5 2020 detects another vehicle approaching from behind on a circle of less than 2 meters, all OLED segments will light up. When it starts to move, the indicator light will return to normal.

Looking ahead, digital OLED allows more modifications to special lighting. For example, pre-defined symbols can be displayed to warn other drivers of dangers, such as slippery roads or the end of a traffic jam.
