Day 1 — Meet the Speaking Section & Find Your Baseline

Phase I · Speaking · Day 1 of 3 · ⏱ ~1.5 hours

📍 You are here: Day 1 – Orientation → Day 2 – Task 1 (Listen & Repeat) → Day 3 – Task 2 (Take an Interview)

Welcome to the Speaking unit 💪 The Speaking section is only 8 minutes on test day, but it's one of the most score-decisive sections. In 2026 there's no preparation time, so spontaneous fluency is everything.

Two words you'll see all week — let's fix them now:

  • The exam has exactly two tasks: Task 1 – Listen & Repeat and Task 2 – Take an Interview. That's the only thing "Task" means.
  • What you do each day are Steps. Just follow Step 1, 2, 3 in order.

🎯 Today's goal: Understand how the Speaking section works and record an honest baseline for both tasks.

You're done when: you've taken the diagnostic and logged your baseline score in your portfolio.

⏰ Step 1 — Daily Warm-Up: Word Stress

In Listen & Repeat, stressing the right syllable makes you sound natural. Pick the stressed syllable in each word.

📺 Step 2 — Understand the two Speaking tasks

The Speaking section has two tasks:

  • Task 1 – Listen & Repeat: 7 sentences. Repeat each one exactly. No templates — focus on rhythm.
  • Task 2 – Take an Interview: 4 questions, 45 seconds each. Natural conversation — no memorized templates.

Watch the short orientation video, then read along:

📝 Step 3 — Take your baseline diagnostic

Take a short diagnostic to see where you stand today. Don't be hard on yourself if you can't ace it — that's completely normal at the start 😉. The point is a starting number to measure your progress against.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Structure matters more than "beautiful English." Score 5–6 responses sound clear, not fancy.
  • Recording yourself daily is the #1 fastest way to improve. Most marathoners skip it — don't.
  • In Listen & Repeat, the goal is exact repetition — not paraphrase or improvement.
  • In Take an Interview, the goal is natural conversation — not memorized templates.
