What Is RMC and its Benefits

rmc

RMC or ready mixed concrete is a specialized material that is made by weigh batching the cement aggregates and other ingredients at a truck mixer or a central mixer, before being delivered to the construction site in a ready-to-place condition by the RMC manufacturer. In other words, the concrete is prepared not at the construction site but at a plant far away or in truck mixers and transported to the construction site in ready-to-use form. It is a time-saving solution for diverse workplaces and congested sites and saves the time and efforts that go into storage, procurement, and handling of concrete materials. Ready-mixed concrete is a combination of water, cement, and a mix of gravel, sand, and crushed stone. Since it is manufactured in batching plants or factories and transported to the construction site transit mixers, RMC is favoured over site mixed concrete. There are three types of ready mixed concrete- shrink-mixed concrete, transit mixed concrete, and central mixed concrete.

Shrink Mixed Concrete

An RMC that has been partly mixed in the original plant mixer is known as shrink mixed concrete. The mixing of the remaining RMC takes place in the mountain drum of the truck at the time of the transit.

Transit Mixed Concrete

Also known as dry-batched concrete, all the basic ingredients, including water, are mixed in a truck mixer when preparing transit mixed concrete. The rotation speed of the mixer drum is kept at a charging speed during the initial loading of the ingredients and later brought to a slow rotation at a normal agitating speed. It is of three types- Mixed at job site, Mixed in transit and Mixed in the yard.

Central Mixed Concrete

Also known as central batching plant concrete, central mixed concrete is mixed thoroughly before being loaded into a truck mixer. The truck’s mixing drum operates or functions as an agitator during transit.

The many advantages of using ready mixed concrete for your construction project are:

Reduced Construction Expenses and Time

Using RMC for your construction project can help cut down on labour, material consumption, and storage costs. RMC is prepared by accurately measuring and maintaining the proportion of all the ingredients used. This reduces the scope of waste. The number of workers required as well as the amount of time spent for casting is reduced as well when working when RMC. Since RMC doesn’t require onsite storage, it leads to a further reduction in inconvenience and total costs.

Superior Quality

Quality assurance is often a big issue for onsite concrete. There are many parameters to keep a check on such as water-cement ratio and grading of the aggregates. However, quality can be consistently maintained by using RMC, especially when batching from reliable sources. It speeds up the constriction process considerably and offers constant quality standards.

Efficiency

When working with regular concrete, a lot of time and labour is required to finish the job. With the construction industry adapting to technological growth, the production process requires less oversight and leads to considerable savings on materials and energy. This assures high-speed construction.

Eco-Friendly

RMC is an eco-friendly material. All the materials used in its making such as aggregate, water, and cement are available in abundance and have a lesser impact on the environment when being extracted as compared to other building materials. They can be easily refurbished to their natural condition and the leftovers can even be recycled or reused.

Low Maintenance Costs

Buildings made with RMC are much more durable, sturdy, and require minimal maintenance while also possessing a bigger sustainable advantage as compared to other structures. While humidity and moisture can affect other construction materials, their effect on concrete structures is almost negligible. RMC is also moulds and termites resistant and gets stronger with time. It leads to the saving of resources by reducing the need for rebuilding or maintenance.

Diminished Wastage

The accurate mixing process of RMC results in lesser cement consumption. Fixed quantities of this high-quality material can easily be prepared. It diminishes the storage space required for the necessary materials at the construction site. It is a versatile material and can be used in different ways by the site contractor.
