The translation issues

I've taken a participation in the crowdfunding campaign of localization of a board game about the World War II. The Russian board game publisher promises to give it to us in this autumn already. The game was released in 2019 and already had many positive feedbacks and rewards. It tells about confrontation between the US and Nazi infantry during battles on the West Front in 1944-1945. The translators were facing with some difficulties while they tried to translate game terms. Because the authors of the game had problems too. They should create the equivalent sides of the conflict to balance. But the US and German army had the different command structure. And that's why they took the decision to use for each side the structure of the US rifle platoon. The command team in the US platoon consists of platoon leader, platoon sergeant, platoon guide and messengers. The messengers were excluded from the game, because they weren't used in it, but the rest was kept. But the trouble for the translation to Russian is the Russian army platoon has only commander and second-in-command, but the US platoon has commander (leader), second-in-command (sergeant, by the way, it is the position, not the rank) and third-in-command (guide). The platoon guide term hasn't the adequate translation in Russian at all. And now there are hot discussions about the right translation of the game terms on the game publisher forums.
