The Great War was the most important event that took place during the Void Age. This war has brought several changes to the world. Until now, Eiichiro Oda still hasn't revealed how the Great War took place. However, it is known that this war ended in the destruction of Shandora.
Shandora itself is an ancient city built by Shandorian, the ancestors of the Shandia. Shandora was later destroyed by the Twenty Kingdoms in the Void Century. It is said that Shandora put up a fight to protect their Poneglyphs. Unfortunately, the strength of the Twenty Kingdoms was stronger than them.
Until now, the name of the Great Kingdom was still unknown. However, the Great Empire had a very close connection with the Void Century. Given how the World Government tries to keep the Void Century a secret, few people know about what happened in the Void Century. It is said that the Pirate King, Gol D Roger, knows the Void Century.
Roger discovers the history of the Void Century after he and his crew arrive at Laugh Tale. This was even confirmed directly by his right-hand man, Silvers Rayleigh. Besides Roger and Rayleigh, Whitebeard also knew the history of the Void Century. Whitebeard is told by Roger about what happened in the Void Century and D's Will.
So far, the Poneglyph is the only thing that can unravel the history of the Void Century. When the Great Kingdom was defeated by the Twenty Kingdoms, they learned that their enemies would erase information about their history.
Therefore, the Great Kingdom wrote a message for future generations through the Poneglyph, the indestructible stone. The poneglyphs themselves are written in an ancient language and cannot be read by everyone. Previously, people in Ohara could read Poneglyphs.
However, after the World Government found out about it, they decided to destroy Ohara Island and its people. Now, Nico Robin is the only person who can read the Poneglyph.

The Void Century was something the World Government had always wanted to keep secret. Of course, they must know what happened in the Void Century. The World Government itself was first formed about 800 years ago, at the end of the Void Century to be precise.
