Mercedes-Benz GLB launched in Malaysia-GLB 200, GLB 250 and GLB 35
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) kicked off today with the release of Mercedes-Benz GLB. It starts at MYR 269,118 (GLB 200), MYR 318,009 (GLB 250 4Matic) and MYR 363,136 (Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic) (price does not include insurance and SST). Mercedes GLB was launched globally in June 2019, completely imported from Mexico.
This compact SUV based on the MFA2 platform has the code X247 and is one of the GLA and GLC in the Mercedes-Benz series in Malaysia. If there is a demand for GLB 250 4Matic and Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic on the market, a platform specifically designed for front-wheel drive can also accept all-wheel drive configurations.
In terms of appearance, the GLB 200 is equipped with a Progressive Line kit. The characteristics of this variant are:
1. 5-inch dual-alloy wheels, size 18-inch 235/55/R 18
2. Skirting line and bumper progressive line
For the GLB 250 variant, it comes with the AMG Line kit. The characteristics of this variant are:
1. AMG Line alloy rim with a radius of 5 times
2. AMG Line bumpers and skirting boards
3. Turn to AMG line
For the GLB 35 variant, it comes with 20-inch alloy wheels and front Panamericana grille.
A unique feature of the Mercedes GLB is that it can accommodate 7 seats, but at an additional cost. The second row of seats can be folded in a 40:20:40 configuration, while the third row of seats can be folded in a 50:50 ratio.
Without the third row, the capacity of the boot space is 630 litres. If both lines are completely folded, the guiding space can reach 1,800 liters.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB has a length of 4,634 mm, a width of 1,834 mm, and a height of 1,659 mm (5 seats) or 1,663 mm (7 seats). Its size is closer to GLC than GLA.
Facts have proved that the MFA2 platform is very practical and flexible, even with a wheelbase of 2829 mm, it can accommodate 7 seats. With a square design, it looks smoother than GLA and GLC.
GLB 200 and A 200 have the same engine (M282). Renault’s 1.33-liter turbo four-cylinder engine produces 163 PS at 5,500 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at 1,620-4,000 rpm. It is matched with a 7-speed Getrag 7G-DCT transmission (wet clutch), which can accelerate from 0-100 km/h to a top speed of 207 km/h in 9.1 seconds.
The GLB 250 has the same engine (M260) as the A250. This 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine produces 224 PS at 5,800 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1,800-4,000 rpm. It is paired with an 8-speed 8G-DCT transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive. Therefore, it is able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h to a maximum speed of 236 km/h in 6.9 seconds.
The top variant of the GLB 35 is equipped with the same engine, but has been adjusted to produce 306 PS at 5,800-6,100 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 3,000-4000 rpm. It can also be used with transmissions such as GLB 250, but it has a SPEEDSHIFT tuning function. With 4Matic all-wheel drive, it can accelerate from 0-100 km/h to a top speed of 250 km/h in 5.2 seconds.
